Bad Website
- - Website is poorly designed and customer support is poor.
- - ZIP+4 input forces choosing from a list.
- - Complaint email received no answer.
The website is poorly designed with customer support being really, really bad. if you say you have a problem the site gives you choices
that may or may not be your problem.
Open-ended questions are not allowed. Put in my 5 digit zip code but they insisted on the additional 4 digit code that you could not type in, but had to pick from their list. My last four were not on their list of options. Lots of other annoying things.
Sent an email of complaint. No answer.
User's recommendation: Hey it's a monopoly. They don't care!!
This company has little concern about me as a customer. Their gas meter was installed in the closet with a water heater; when it should be located outside. Over 2 weeks and they have not moved it.
- - Gas meter must be moved to install a water heater; no hot water or heat.
- - Customer service won't arrange a contractor; callback 5–10 days.
The gas meter must be moved so a new water heater can be installed. NO HOT WATER nor HEAT!
The customer service manager refused to get a contractor out, because the process is 5 to 10 days to receive a call. It's been over 10 days; and now it's another 5 to 10 days with no guarantee.
This is there process.
User's recommendation: Unfortunately we cannot choose our gas provider.

Verified Reviewer |Hasty in disconnecting service but slow in reconnecting tv
- - Washington Gas customer; locked out two months.
- - Disconnection without warning.
- - Reconnect next day; Friday delay leaves four days without heat.
For more than 25 years, I have been a loyal Washington Gas customer, faithfully paying every bill without a single delinquency. And yet, after two months of being locked out of my account despite multiple frustrating attempts to fix the access issues Washington Gas heartlessly disconnected my service without warning.
Imagine waking up in the morning, stepping into the shower, and being hit with freezing water.
No notice. No opportunity to correct the problem. Just cold silence from a company that I had trusted for decades.
When I immediately called and paid the bill in full, they coldly informed me that their policy is to reconnect the next day.
But because it was Friday, they scheduled my service for Monday meaning my family would be without heat and hot water for four full days.
Is this how you treat loyal customers?
Is this the compassion you show to the families you serve?
How is it acceptable for a utility company to abandon a family for an entire weekend simply because they refuse to staff adequately or pay for overtime? Where is the human decency?
- Heartless and inhumane
Preferred solution: Be kind to your customers. Have some empathy. Do not cut off gas which is so essential in every day life functions before giving adequate notice.
User's recommendation: Go electric in Washington Gas service area.

Verified ReviewerNo hot water presumably due to gas leak

- - No hot water for three days at Newport Village; water is freezing.
- - Gas line leak; Washington Gas began work today after a Sunday incident.
Going on three days without hot water at the Newport Village apartments. The claim is there is a gas line leak that Washington Gas started working on today despite the fact that the incident occurred on Sunday.
We still have no hot water, water is freezing. Clearly, a complete disregard for their customers.
- Do not care about customers
Preferred solution: Fix the problem
User's recommendation: If you can help it, don’t move to Virginia.

Verified ReviewerGas Turn-On Residential
The reviewer tried to contact the company before posting this review.
- - Gas was off on Aug 19 and I did not request it back on.
- - A tech turned gas back on Aug 20 without my request; appointments for Aug 21-22 were missed.
bad not good
19. This is the same day I called to change the name on the bill and let them know I will be making payments. A tech came out on Aug 20 to 'turn the gas on per customer request'. I never made this request and was not yet aware the gas was off.
When I figured out it was off, I made appointments for both Wed, Aug 21 and Thur, Aug 22 to have a tech come out, but no one came. I am told the window is 7AM to 5PM. I talked to a supervisor at approx 5:00 PM on Aug 21 and was told techs worked until 9 PM and she had made a new appointment for me. I turned the car around, drove back to the residence and waited until 9PM, yet no one came.
I was hung up on today, Friday. I actually feel at this point that these representatives are either ignoring me or doing the exact opposite of what I ask. Meanwhile, the gas remains off (illegal?
lawsuit?) while I try to make yet another appointment for, I am told, next Tuesday. It is amazing to me that when your company makes mistakes, I have to pay for it.
- Monopoly
Preferred solution: My gas on, and a $ 100 credit to the account. Please no BS apology.
User's recommendation: Nothing-They are a monopoly and can do what they want.
Can’t make updates to start or stop service
This is the second day in a row where I called and their system is down and I cannot request to stop and start new service at my home.

Verified ReviewerHorrible service! Unprofessional!
- - Scheduled service canceled; customer took time off.
- - No knock or doorbell observed; video shows arrival and departure.
I was scheduled to have service connected today (8/8/2022). The techs arrived, went to my front door, and knocked (lightly) before leaving a note stating, no answer.
The problem is that the front door is on the first level, and we are three levels up. Even if the tech banged on the door, it would be difficult hearing it from the 3rd level. I have ring doorbells installed in the front and back. The techs did not bother right either of them.
The second tech even slipped the notice of service on my garage doorbell but neglected to ring it! When these appointments are scheduled, we are given an all-day window where we must have an adult available to let the tech inside. I took today off SPECIFICALLY for this and these guys canceled my appointment for no show! They were there for a total of 5 minutes based on the video footage from my doorbell cameras.
I never heard a knock, and they definitely did not ring the doorbell. Ive attached the video footage of them arriving, knocking on the door, leaving the notice, and departing. When I called customer service (spoke to Michelle who was wonderful), she tried to get them to return but the ticket was cancelled, and I have to reschedule. These guys have no regard for the customer and the fact that we have to take time off work to make these service appointments.
Ive been without service for over a week now and will not have anyone available to wait all day when I reschedule.
Very unprofessional!!! Take a look at the videos from the time they arrived till the time they left.
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Get a chair and sit at your door all day. They don't know how to operate a doorbell.

Verified ReviewerRepave my driveway that was dug up by a contractor in June 2022 to replace an old pipe line.
The reviewer tried to contact the company before posting this review.
- - Washington Gas dug up my driveway in June to install piping.
- - The resulting deep ditch is a hazard; I've called the advocate line for months to repave.
Washington Gas hired a contractor to dig up my driveway in early June to install updated piping. The long ditch has become very deep and is a liability hazard for pedestrians, bicyclists, parents pushing strollers, joggers etc.
in front off my house. I have been calling Washington Gas advocate line for many months to get Washington Gas to send out a contractor to repave my drive way.
- Unresponsiveness
User's recommendation: Don't let Washington Gas dig up your property to install updated piping. They dug up my driveway in June 2022 and still have not come to repair my driveway.
HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!
- - Cannot rate below 1 star.
- - Two weeks with no gas.
- - Night temps reach 40 degrees.
- - Technician no-showed.
- - We pay for this service.
THEY WON'T ALLOW ME TO GIVE LESS THAN 1 STAR. IF I COULD I WOULD!
2 WEEKS NO GAS. 40 DEGREES AT NIGHT, TECHNICIAN NO-SHOWS AND THEY WNT YOU TO WAIT FROM7AM UNTIL 9PM! CALL CENTER DIRECTS YOU TO SCRIPT READERS WHO JUST READ THE SHEET!
THE GREAT PART IS YOU GET TO PAY FOR THIS SERVICE! SAD!!!
8Billing
- - Walkup location on MLK Ave SE was closed and not accepting cash; I had to pay at ACE.
- - Please update records if the facility is closed.
Went to pay bill at walkup location on MLK Ave, SE only to find facility closed and not accepting cash.

Funny how you claim you were locked out of your account for two months but once the power was turned off you immediately called and what do you know? The account opened all of a sudden and you were able to pay.
Actually shame on you. You waited two months with your weak excuse.
They have walk-in centers you could have paid at. Have you signed up for auto-pay now so this won’t happen again?
Hey guest, who exactly are you representing? You were quick to jump in with a nasty insult—are you working for Washington Gas?
Out of countless reviews on countless businesses, you just happened to immediately find mine and side with Washington Gas’s inhumane actions without even knowing the full story? Don’t tell me that’s a coincidence. Regardless of the reason for my late payment, the complete lack of proper notification—no letter, no phone call—before disconnecting essential services is absolutely unjustifiable. Have you ever been forced to live without heat for days?
No heating, no cooking, no hot showers—basic necessities taken away. Shame on you for defending the interests of powerful companies at the expense of ordinary people.
I'm not the "Guest" who originally responded to you but I am responding to you now. This is a public consumer site that anyone in the world may use to post complaints and reviews about any company in the world.
When you click on "complaints", you see the most recent ones. I saw this one yesterday but did not comment. I clicked on "discussed complaints" just now and saw your comment where you are accusing someone of working for the company you are complaining about, all because they made a comment.
I get accused of of that all the time by people who do not understand how this site works. Think about it: the idea that someone at this Washington Gas could have foreseen you would write a complaint on this site and would be waiting for it to pounce on, is absolutely absurd.
